The scents of marble

A sensory journey to discover marble while on vacation and in your home

Does marble have a scent? Yes, it has the fragrance of art, history, and matter. It recalls Italy's culture, uniqueness, and the beauty of the places where marble is extracted between Liguria and Tuscany. And there is no better destination than Portovenere, in the Gulf of Poets, where to embark on a sensory journey to discover marble!

Incredible hosts!

I don't write reviews unless something is beyond exceptional and I felt The Grand Hotel Portovenere was one of my best hotel experiences (and I have stayed at over 200 hotels) and deserved to be acknowledged!

My friend booked the hotel for three nights and we shared a room. The price of the hotel was more than I would usually pay and even though the room was not very big, it was simple, elegant and comfortable. However, The service from ALL staff was beyond anything I have every experienced (even at the Four Seasons hotels). From the front desk staff to the restaurant manager and severs, house keeping and maintenance, and general manager, EVERY SINGLE one of them went out of their way to create a magical experience where we felt taken care of.  It was more than people doing their job and "trying" to be good hosts.  It was the very nature of the individuals, so kind and genuinely excited to be of service.

Amazing Views

This hotel is all about the view. It was stunning. We had a room with a balcony overlooking the water and town and words can't describe how pretty it is...

Four blissful nights

A beautiful waterfront hotel in the picturesque town of Portovenere, convenient for  visiting Cinque Terre towns, but a respite from the crowds of tourists.  Our room was very comfortable w/ a large patio and spectacular views.  The staff was truly exceptional - so friendly, knowledgeable, and all went above and beyond to make our stay fabulous!

A beautiful place to stay

From the views, to the staff, to the excellent grilled fish dinners, this was a memorable three day stay. Easy access to Cinque Terre!

Charming hotel near Cinque Terre

We stayed three nights in this charming boutique hotel as our base for a visit to Cinque Terre. The suite was spacious, nicely furnished and very comfortable. The harbor view was awesome. Breakfast was included, and consisted of a sumptuous buffet as well as made to order eggs. The restaurant terrace is lovely. The staff is helpful and friendly.  Parking was also included in the room rate. Porto Venere itself is a cute town with a fair number of good restaurants and shops. The hotel is the nicest lodging in close proximity to Cinque Terre and proved to be for us the ideal venue for our visit to the area. We had a wonderful stay in the hotel and would recommend it highly.
